Tricopigmentation is a non-surgical treatment that consists in injecting microscopic deposits of pigment in the scalp tissue with the purpose to conceal bald areas of the scalp, diffuse thinning or imperfections caused by hair loss or scarring. This technique embodies the simulation of natural hair bulbs to create an optical coverage. Tricopigmentation is reversible, hypoallergenic and biocompatible thanks to the composition of the specific pigments that are used.
The specific dot technique and the natural ash color guarantee an almost perfect replication of the natural hair pattern and reflection. The overall longevity of tricopigmentation depends on the areas of treatment, the individual age, skin characteristics, complexion, immune system of the patient as well as external factors (sun exposure, sports). The hairline design, treatment homogeneity and harmony with the existing hair are also very essential factors in order to reach a very natural looking result. A tricopigmentation is basically performed in 3 sessions, the first and second session are performed on 2 consecutive days and the third session is executed 20-30 days after the second session. A tricopigmentation takes between 2 and 4 hours. In case of a full scalp reconstruction the treatment might take longer.
1. Density effect
Density effect permits to obtain a good coverage even in case of a longer hair length. It reduces transparency and increases the optical hair density. This implementation case is a good alternative for hair fiber products.
2. Shaved effect
It allows us to replicate a full shaved look in case of patients that are not indicated for hair transplant surgery due to donor/recipient imbalance, patients with alopecia universalis or patients that are looking for a cheaper solution for their hair loss problem than hair restoration surgery.
The shaved effect permits to obtain full scalp reconstruction, density improvement or partial scalp reconstruction (hairline) in case of a shaved or medium hair length.
3. Scar reconstruction
It allows patients to conceal postoperative FUE or FUT scars or post-traumatic scars.
4. Alternative treatment for women
For female patients that are not indicated for hair transplant surgery due to donor/recipient imbalance, suffer from alopecia universalis or who are looking for a cheaper solution for their hair loss problem than hair restoration surgery, tricopigmentation can offer an alternative solution to get a visibly better density.
The quality of the result of a tricopigmentation treatment comes down to the following important factors:
Unlike the pigments used for permanent treatments (scalp micropigmentation), temporary pigments are explicitly designed to break down more easily and naturally fade within the body. This accelerated reaction occurs due to the compound of the pigment. Temporary pigment particle sizes are smaller and therefore are broken down more quickly and removed from the body via your immune system.
The pigment typically starts to fade from around 6 to 18 months after the treatment although not necessarily evenly or completely. This option typically requires a further application after 12 months depending on skin type, tone, desired effect, and sun exposure. The shade on the scalp surface may last 2-3 years with this type of pigment but is still likely to reside in the dermal layer for longer. The non-permanent pigmentation is important because your appearance will change during the years and the permanent pigmentation will inevitably create an unnatural look.
How does TCP complement hair restoration surgery?
Tricopigmentation is a temporary version of scalp micropigmentation that involves a similar technique but with different pigments and different durability. A yearly maintenance is therefore required.
The option of a temporary result more often convince people to resolve their hair loss problem because tricopigmentation is not permanent. Since the pigments fade out after 6-18 months, a tricopigmentation doesn’t cause any problem when the hair of the patient loses its pigment and becomes white. In case of a scalp micropigmentation it might on the contrary become a problem when the pigments are dark and the patient’s hair becomes white, this will give an unnatural look.
